Today I am going to give you my top 10 tips to living the life of your dreams. It’s common knowledge that we only get one shot at this particular adventure in time and space. One shot in this body, with these friends and these experiences. We get to experience the vastness through this body only once. There will never, ever be another you, not one who feels the water how you feel it, or sings, ‘Sorry’ by Justin Beiber quite like you (I see you! <3 ) This is good news, because that means you are in charge of living each moment to the fullest. In our society we are conditioned to believe that if you do what makes you happy you are selfish and I’m writing this article today to tell you that common belief is not true. Not in the slightest. So if you are ready to start living life on your terms I am bringing you my top 10 tips. Are you ready? Let’s get started
1: Be Kind
This may seem like a simple thing, right? Treat others how you want to be treated, don’t punch people in the face, smile at strangers. The problem with this is we forget to be kind to ourselves, you see in order to make the most out of this life we have to build a relationship with ourselves. Treat ourselves as we would our children, or best friend. Mistakes happen, but we need to learn to gentle and kind with ourselves and each other.
2: Take Chances
With this life that we get, we have to be diligent in taking the opportunities as they come. We cannot allow our illusions or fears hold us back. If you are ready to start living the best life yet you have to look opportunities right in the eye, say “YES! THANK YOU!” then rise to the opportunity. You cannot let fear of failing hold you back, because guess what? We will all fail, but not all of us learn. Learn from your failures and use the lessons to be a better you, because after all, that’s all we can do is try to be better than yesterday.
3: Never Let Go of Your Dreams
The first step in never letting go is to first know what it is you dream of. This might come to a shock to some people if they have never been allowed to dream big before. Remember back to when you were a kid and you wanted to be a doctor, firefighter or the next Spice Girl (Heyyy!). Now at first our parents and other respected adults might have thought those dreams were cute, but as we got older they might have dismissed the idea of you joining a British Pop Band, but why? The answer is simple- someone they loved once dismissed their dreams too. So if you are a parent, or even if you just have a child in your life that looks up to you- PLEASE – do not dismiss their dreams. So now if you don’t know what it is you dream of, then it’s time to meditate or be still and simply get to know yourself better. Find out what sets your soul on fire and do that. Do a lot of that.
4: Be Passionate
If you have to do something do it with all of your ability. I’ve have found “cheat codes” to even enjoying things that I might not originally want to do. Such as cleaning the bathroom, so instead of cleaning the bathroom haphazardly and hating every moment of it. I choose to keep my vibes up by having a few glasses of wine and turning on some great music. Or I choose to clean it when I finished doing something I really love like writing in my gratitude journal, and then reward myself after. Be passionate, if you cannot be passionate about the one thing you are doing then write a short gratitude list using the bathroom as an example.
- I am grateful I have a bathroom
- I am grateful for running water
- I am grateful for my children, who had a blast exploring bubbles
- I am grateful for the time I have to make this room shine.
- I am grateful for a clean bathroom.
Now, there is a reason behind how and why I created the list as I did. Simple “I am” statements raise your vibration immensely especially when you say it in gratitude. I went through the list, maybe starting small but gradually getting more detailed. This is important and it works. As you can see I finished the list off with the outcome of the action I needed to take.
5: Do What Makes You Happy
If you look at the most successful and happy people you will often find that they do a lot of things that really brings them joy. This isn’t a coincidence. If you don’t want to do something, it’s okay to say “No”. It’s also okay to ask for help when you need it as well. The key to happiness begins with really knowing yourself. Remember these three things.
- You can say no without feeling guilty.
- Put yourself first.
- There’s beauty in being vulnerable and asking for help.
6: Learn to Surf
If you are ready to really make the most out of this life then you have to be willing to experience life. There is a darkness and light to everything, a yin and a yang. Both are necessary because without one there wouldn’t be another. I am sure you have heard people say without darkness there is no light and it’s the truth. Without pain there isn’t joy. Instead of trying to stop the waves in life, or in this instance obstacles, hurdles or hard times simply stop and ask yourself this; What is the lesson?
It seems crazy, right? This is a game changer. This changes the way you perceive things. Instead of looking at every obstacle as a roadblock and a reason to give up you can choose to look at is as a way to grow. So the next time you are feeling sad, hopeless or unsure ask yourself, “What is the lesson?”
7: Choose Happy
Happiness is a choice, I know that people struggle with illnesses, but I’m not talking about depression, or anxiety- both of which I had battled previously. I understand and it’s important in those instances to seek a medical professional and get a support system in place. What I am talking about is choosing happiness every. single. day. Now this isn’t going to change your life all at once, but it will gradually chance your perception.
Right when you wake up say one or all of these mantras.
- Something MAGICAL is going to happen today.
- Today is a wonderful day.
- I am excited for all of the wonderful opportunities that today will bring.
- I choose happiness.
Add them to your alarm clock so right when you wake up you can say them. When you first start off it might seem odd, but soon you will start to feel the excitement behind each statement and slowly but surely your life will change.
8: Help Others
Do this as often as you can with as much as you can. We might not have a spare 400,000 to give to charity, but that doesn’t mean we cannot impact the world. I have a list of ideas that I like to keep for those days I am feeling those lower vibrations. Helping people no matter how small it may seem is an instant vibe-enhancer. Below I am sharing the list feel free to share it, save it and add to it.
- Open a door for someone
- Let someone go ahead of you in a line.
- Smile and give someone a genuine compliment.
- Pay for someone’s meal.
- Give someone a gift. (This could be something you made, you had on hand- it doesn’t have to be purchased new)
- Send someone a letter or card telling them why you appreciate them. (This can also be sent by email)
- Take the time to listen to someone, really listen.
9: Love, a lot.
Love is the closest thing to magic. Nothing else in this world can completely fill you up, leave you vulnerable and ignite a spark inside of your soul. To love someone completely and unconditionally is a magical cure for any ailments of the mind, body and soul. To be loved is wonderful, but the real magic comes from giving love, completely without any expectation in return. It feels scary at first, your ego might tell you to abort ship, but stay in the feeling… you won’t regret it.
There is also an exercise I like to do when I am out and have a few moments to sit and observe people in public. I will pick out someone in the crowd and send love from my heart chakra to theirs. If you are new to this here is the steps.
- Find a comfortable place to sit
- Take a few moments for mindful breathing. If you are new to this take a deep in-breath through your nose for 3 counts, out through your mouth for 3 counts and continue for a minute.
- Choose a person in the crowd- try not to think too much about this.
- Take a few moments to observe this person
- Pick out something you love this person for. Some examples
- I love you for caring for your kids
- I love you for your smile.
- I love you for being- simply being.
- Imagine divine green light filling your heart chakra.
- Imagine your heart chakra sending divine, healing, loving light to that person’s heart chakra.
- Do this for as long as you can or feel comfortable.
All of this can be done without speaking a word. You don’t have to stare at the person, you can close your eyes or simply imagine them.
10: Let it go
In the words of my favorite Princess of Arendelle, Elsa- Let it go. Let go of expectations, both of yourself and of others. Do what makes you happy to the best of your ability. Help others to the best of your ability. Don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t allow a simple misstep take you completely off course. There are a few things that I do when I am trying to release something. I will share the tips below.
- If it’s something I cannot control I will do a simple meditation with a set of mantras and give it to the Universe (Or higher power, whichever that is for you)
- If it’s something I can control I will create a set of action steps to get where I want to be. This helps me get rid of that constant worry and I am able to bring my vibrations back up from hopelessness to that sense of power over my life.
These are my 10 tips to make the most out of your life. I hope you enjoyed the action steps, if you loved them feel free to share with your friends.
